Snot fest 2006

As of tomorrow evening we'll have been home with Maisie for an entire week, which is so difficult to believe. Also difficult to believe is that we're still sick, but getting better everyday. I still don't have a voice so most of my limited talking has been to Little Miss M. I'm surprised that she knows who I am day to day as I've gone from sounding normal when we met, to my Barry White voice and now on to this squeaky, broken weird voice, but she knows me and is more and more attached each and every day.

Maisie's personality comes out more and more each day and we're slowly working on getting her adjusted to life here and working on conquering her demons. Even though she is sick and having to adjust to so many new things and surroundings, she is a joy and we are so blessed to have her in our lives. She now does OK in her carseat but only when the car is in motion. Each day she spends a little more time in her highchair which allows both Eammon and I to eat at the same time. She'll do a little bit of independent play as long as Eammon and/or I are no further than 3 feet away. Next we'll work on getting her into her stroller and most importantly into her crib. Maisie has been attached to me virtually 24/7 since returning home and while I do love having her so close and allowing her to bond with me, sometimes this girl needs a rest as well as some private time in the bathroom.

We've been well taken care of by friends who have grocery shopped for us as well as all the wonderful meals that have been brought over. Even though everyone has been anxious to meet Miss M, we've really appreciated the time and space that we've been allowed to not only bond with Maisie but also for us to recover but we look forward to seeing everyone very soon and introducing you all to our beautiful daughter. I've added some Maisie pictures below, most from our time in China as well as a couple from home. I still plan to post about out trip once things settle down.

Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year.

No way, no how are you getting a picture of me on that sofa. Red couch photo op at the White Swan, Guangzhou.

Lots of people wanted their picture taken with little Miss Maisie.

OK, I'm in the highchair but I'm not loving it.

Delurking here to help with the voice thing...but first your daughter is beautiful! Congratulations to your family! About the voice opera singer taught me this trick (no kidding)when you're vocal chords are strained you should think of them like any other muscle in your body and apply ice. Ice chips will work in this case...grab a cup of them and just keep loading them in. It works really well in conjuction with the med's from your doc. Speedy recovery wishes to the three of you!

Actually I am not too surprised about your still being sick. I think getting pnuemonia and in response flying around the world, climbing The Great Wall etc etc is not part of any recommended medical treatment plan. But then you have all that heart and backbone. It is great that you are making steps forward even while all of you are sick. Thanks for taking time to post and more pictures of all of you. The little lady has such a presence about her. Looks like they made a perfect match this time.

  11. I have been following your wonderful blog since you have touched down in china, at least twice a day. With an LID of July 5/06 we still have a bit of a wait.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend. Maisie is absolutly beautiful. I look forward to your updates :-)

    Happy New Year!!!

  17. Maisie is just adorable and I am glad each day she is doing better. It all take stime. Feel better soon. You got thrown into motherhood sick and now you know you can handle it all!

  18. Thanks for the update. It's great to hear how everyone is doing and the precious Miss M is beginning the adjustment to her new home. It's so hard for us to understand all the changes these little ones have faced in such a short time. She looks like she's doing wonderfully and I'm so happy to hear all of you are on the mend. Continuing to pray for all of you.

Great play area you've set up for her. I love the idea of the playmats on the floor with the gate to give mommy a moment of freedom to go to the bathroom. :o) My niece is 7 and I'm quickly learning that doors on bathrooms are only there to be opened by them when the need us. Oh well...we wouldn't have it any other way!

Welcome home Lisa, Eammon and Sweet Maisie! Happy New year!!!

  19. I stumbled on your blog a few weeks ago...and congrats on your beautiful daughter!!! I hope you feel better soon and get to enjoy her know that you are home!

    Hi Lisa,
Nice to hear your update. Maisie looks so cute. Now when I am going to see her with the Paris beret?
Can you tell that I am going stark raving mad with the TA and CA wait?
It is grey cold rainy and depressing in Paris. This is truly the worst wait. Seeing Lila's face and wondering about her is such an emotional experience. Thanks for sharing you lovely daughter with us.

I hope that the lack of an update is because you are all healthy again and very busy!

  27. Lisa,
Your blog is awesome and your sweet daughter is just gorgeous. I love the Nursery and have to know where you found that giraffe -is it a growth chart? I am just finishing our nursery and also have a sort of "Safari" theme - well it is just stuff that I like,I will post pix of it soon since it is still kind of a mess. I really enjoyed reading about your trip and your days home. We are waiting for our TA right now to go to Haikou to get our beauty! Thanks for sharing.
