Gung Hay Fat Choy!!! 新年快樂 Happy Year of the Dragon!!!

IMG_5252[3]Maisie celebrating CNY in 2011

We don’t really have anything planned this year for Chinese New Year as we have been crazy busy with Maisie’s new gymnastics schedule & school, Eammon’s been busy with work and we’ve all had a bit of the lurg.  So this year it’s going to be a quiet family celebration with some of our favorite foods, hot pot and dumplings.  Poor little Maisie though with her food allergies hasn’t been able to enjoy her beloved dumplings like she has in the past…until I figured out a way to make them sans the wheat wrapper.  Enter Pork Dumplings with Rice Wrappers and can I say, these are not quite traditional but beyond delicious.  I have made them now a few times and I love that I can make a big  batch and freeze them so when Maisie has a craving for dumplings I can easily pull a few from the freezer and she can safely enjoy one of her favorite meals.  As always, just click on the picture to be taken to the recipe.

  3. Happy New Year friend! What a wonderful and delicious way to celebrate CNY!

This may sound weird but what a blessing it is to have a food allergy in this day. My brother has celiac disease and 35 years ago when mom was trying to figure out what to feed him the options were so minimal. So thankful for the options at the grocery store now...and for Maisie's mom who works so hard to convert her sweetie's favourite foods into Maisie friendly versions!

Enjoy those yummy dumplings!! The picture made my mouth water!

  4. My Shanghai mother in law makes dumplings using a thin egg omelet as a wrapper. Don't know much about it but maybe u can find something on the Internet. All I know is that it's delicious!

  5. Minyee, the thin egg wrappers sound wonderful but Maisie is also allergic to eggs so I'll have to stick to the rice wrappers, plus we really like the rice wrappers so it's no hardship.

  7. Gung Hey Fat Choy! We have no special plans this year either. We went out to one of our favorite Chinese restaurants last night and we hung a lantern today. Whoohoo.

Your dumplings look so scrumptious. Some of my meals taste delicious, but they never look at as good as yours!
