Dumplings

IMG_7060Dumplings are a staple in our home and it’s not unusual for Maisie to want them for both lunch and dinner.  I don’t really have a problem with her eating dumplings especially ones that we make at home as they’re stuffed with healthy low-fat meat and lots of veggies.  I’ve made homemade dumplings numerous times before but more times than not I resort to the frozen from-the-store dumplings because they are so easy and I always have them in the freezer.  My recent dumpling making with the ladies evening inspired me though and today we made up a big batch of chicken dumplings which I’ll freeze and next time Maisie has a dumpling craving I’ll be able to quickly satisfy her desires with healthy homemade dumplings.

I was asked what I learned at the dumpling making class and basically I learned how to pleat the dumplings so instead of just the flat folded-over half moon shaped dumplings I now make pretty little pleated pouches.

Hmmm…I think it’s time to take down those Easter decorations!

  3. Oh my gosh do those look yummy! I love the little pleats. You need to offer a photo tutorial on how to me these, including the pleats!

  4. Mmmmm, I think I would eat them for lunch and dinner too if I could!

My Aunt Elaine makes them by the hundreds, and she told me her "secret" is that she uses thinner wrappers than the standard dumpling wrappers. Hmmmm.

  6. I second Bailey's idea! I need to stock pile alot of recipes that produce large amounts and freeze well. Being a single mom and working full time, often not getting home til close to 6:pm, dinner needs to be ready to heat up or through in the microwave to offset the meltdown from the kid that needs mommy's undivided attention right now after being separated all day and is also needing a full belly at the same time.
Do you have any , more beginner style recipes to share , keeping in mind that I am pretty well illiterate in the kitchen!
