I almost got him home…

photo (6)eI really enjoyed being in San Antonio and helping my friend Judy with her cutie-patootie son Nathaniel Seth, I mean look at that sweet little face!

photo 3eHe was so soft and sweet and his favorite place to sleep was on my chest which brought back such wonderful memories of my little Maisie Miao Miao doing the exact same thing when she was little.

photo (3)eI loved having him in Maisie’s old Hip Hammock and holding him close when just hanging out and playing on my computer.  Don’t you just love my multi-tasking abilities!

photo (5)eNathaniel was even a perfect dinner companion, not making a peep and just looking sweet.

photo (4)eI could eat up his adorable little face.

IMG_5371eI thought that I could maybe get him home with no one noticing.  I mean look, he fit perfectly in my suitcase.

IMG_5373eBut Judy caught me before I could get away.

Even though exhausting I did enjoy my time with baby boy blue and I miss him but I was so happy Tuesday to return to my big girl Maisie Miao Miao.  When I picked Maisie up at school we showered each other with kisses, it was so wonderful to see her and I swear that she grew while I was away.  While in San Antonio I loved having sweet little Nathaniel Seth sleep on my chest but I loved even more being home and snuggling up to sleep with Maisie.  I still can’t believe that I actually left her for four nights and though we both fared well, neither one of us looks forward to ever doing it again.  I don’t think I’ll let her go to college or ever get married as I want to keep her with me always.  Okay I know that can’t happen but a Mama can wish to keep her girl always close.

I was asked if being with Nathaniel Seth gave me baby fever and the answer is a big NO.  I have never had the want or desire for an infant and though he was sweet, soft, warm and cuddly my time with him didn’t change that desire.

Also to those who questioned and commented on my previous post regarding my having to show Eammon where Maisie's school was located and how to do carpool, you don't know Maisie's school or my husband.  Eammon can easily multiply two six-digit numbers in his head, explain the Higgs boson, quantum gravity and even string theory but don't ask him his social security number, to put on matching socks or do anything practical, especially during his work day.  Maisie's school is extremely small, only about 160 students total from grades 5K - 12th.  They don't do parent/teacher conferences nor have there ever been any programs or special events that Maisie participated in where there would have been a reason for Eammon go to the school.  Combine that with the fact that Maisie's school is not local to us, it takes me an hour to do the round-trip for morning drop off and another hour to do afternoon pick up, she's there during Eammon's work day and his office is located in the exact opposite direction of her school.  So NO, Eammon had never been to Maisie's school but he did great and followed my schedule perfectly while I was away…and now he knows where her school is located AND how to do carpool.

The zucchini in the garden grew like crazy while I was away because when I returned I found a giant one which was the length and girth of Eammon’s forearm.  I’ve been in the mood for and thinking about my Zucchini Fritters but I decided to change up that recipe a bit, cutting out the carbs and adding some different flavors, so I made Bacon & Cheese Zucchini Fritters.  The fritters were crazy good eaten hot but absolutely amazing eaten the following morning cold.  One very interesting thing about these Bacon & Cheese Zucchini Fritters, no one who tried them had any idea that they were eating zucchini, they all thought that they were potato fritters as they tasted very similar to stuffed potato skins.  What a wonderful way to get some healthy veggies into a veggie hating adult or child.  I hope that you’ll give this recipe a go, just click on the link or the picture to be taken to Cook Lisa Cook and the recipe.

Nathaniel Seth

photo (8)eIntroducing our Godson, Nathaniel Seth.  Born Sunday, August 19 @ 5:21am.

photo eWednesday night I returned home late to a very excited voice mail from my friend Judy letting me know that she had been matched with a newborn boy.  After calling her back and getting all the details it wasn’t long before we were both booked on a flight to Texas for first thing Friday morning.  I quickly had to get all of Maisie’s things organized, labeled and laid out, do laundry, get her gym and school outfits together, pack her snacks and meals, do a bit of cooking for dinners for both her and Eammon, reschedule my carpool responsibilities (thanks Sophie), take Eammon and show him where Maisie’s school was located and how to do carpool, write out an hour-by-hour schedule for Eammon and Maisie to follow, cancel my at-least-six-months-in-waiting lunch date with my friend Ilene and most importantly, get my head around being away from my little girl…because other than when I was in the hospital, I have never spent a night away from her.

photo (2) eEarly Friday morning Judy and I flew to Texas, checked into the hotel and were off to the agency.  By dinner time I was a Godmother to one cutie little boy.  This morning after one of his feedings Nathaniel happily spent a few hours sleeping on my chest.  So many memories of my Maisie Miao Miao sleeping the very same way.  Boy do I miss my girl.

Yesterday Maisie called me about six times to check in and find out how I was doing and to tell me she missed me.  She asked again why I was in Texas and I told her that I was helping Judy with her new baby.  Maisie’s comment “Why can’t Judy just find a husband to help her out.”  She’s a funny girl.  Not that she meant that Judy should have a husband but more so, that if she had a husband her Mama would not have had to leave her.  Tuesday I’ll be back and pick my girl up from school and I can’t wait!

IMG_5368eI know, me, me, me, me, me.  Guess I should show who my little Nathaniel Seth actually gets to go home with, his Mama Judy.  Big congrats Judy, you two make a beautiful family and thanks for taking me along to share in the experience and for honoring us with being Nathaniel Seth’s Godparents.

A few days before leaving for Texas my friend Colleen put the idea of salmon in my head as she was making my Coriander Roasted Salmon with Cilantro Yogurt Sauce.  Though I absolutely adore that recipe, I knew I had a new one I wanted to try, Toasted Sesame Ginger Salmon with Sesame Ginger Honey Glaze and WOW was it a huge hit with all of us.  Maisie ate huge portions and asked to have it again for dinner even after knowing that we had finished it the previous night.  I will be making this salmon dish time and time again as it was totally delicious.  Click on the link or the picture to be taken to Cook Lisa Cook and the recipe.

First day of third grade

first day 3rd gradeWhat can I say, my big girl started third grade today. How she can be in third grade already is beyond me…I mean it was only what, like two years ago when she was just a baby and we first saw her sweet little cue ball cutie referral picture. But I guess looking back through the blog and seeing all her first day of school pictures I’m just going to have to accept that my little Maisie Miao Miao is growing up…much faster than I’d like.

IMG_5322e[2] I haven’t updated, nor am I planning on updating, my Maisie Eats Bento blog but just for fun I took a picture of Maisie’s bento today. Maisie ate every drop of her meal and snack which consisted of Black Forest ham, carrot sticks, grapes, a cuties orange, fruit leather and a package of gim.

IMG_5332e[2]Maisie had a wonderful first day and was super excited when I picked her up from school. As soon as we got home she immediately sat at her new big girl desk and completed her homework. I think third grade is going to be an awesome school year for my girl.

Just to prove to myself that Maisie didn’t just come home to us a short time ago and that the past years really happened and that she really is in third grade, a trip down first day of school pictures memory lane.

Today was not only the first day of a new school year but I posted a new recipe over on Cook Lisa Cook for Thai Curry Shrimp with Shirataki Noodles. Super simple to make, great flavors, safe for Maisie's allergies, low carb and delicious eaten as cold leftovers for breakfast…shhhhh. Summer Fun Meet 2012

IMG_5291eMaisie yesterday morning modeling her new competition leotard.

Yesterday Maisie and her teammates competed in their first meet of the season.  Overall Maisie did well but her nemesis the beam took its toll when she bobbled on her leap and touched the beam with her hand.  Maisie still made her first of two qualifying scores for state meet and I know that with each upcoming meet she’ll do better and better…fingers crossed  ;-)

Obligatory hands-in-the-air pictures:

Today has been a rainy, dreary day I was craving some comfort food but I wasn’t in the mood to actually cook so a look in the freezer (man do I love having a big freezer filled with lots of great meals) and I pulled out a package of Hearty Beef Curry which perfectly fit the bill for what I was craving.  I quickly made up a batch of Cauli-Rice, reheated the Hearty Beef Curry and because I had some in the house, I topped it with some chunks of fresh avocado.  Totally delicious!  Click on the links or the picture to be taken to Cook Lisa Cook and the recipe.

Return of the Tooth Fairy

IMG_5307e Today was a good day.  It started this morning with Maisie earning five medals at her first gymnastics meet of the season, followed by her losing her second tooth, so tonight it’s a visit from the Tooth Fairy.

Unfortunately my computer is having some major issues and I can’t get my videos to load properly so meet results, videos and pictures to come once the computer is sorted out.

IMG_5291e Here’s a little teaser though, Maisie before her meet modeling her brand new competition leotard.

IMG_5299e And isn’t she adorable in her new warm-up suit.

Maisie said that her mouth is a bit sore so it’s good that I recently had a soup making day where I made a huge amount of my “Rotisserie” Chicken and gallons of my Cheaters Chicken Soup.  It’s so great to have all that soup and chicken in the freezer for times like this when my girl wants some delicious homemade soup.  Click on the picture to be taken to Cook Lisa Cook and the details of my Soup Day and click on the links for the recipes for both “Rotisserie” Chicken and Cheaters Chicken Soup.
