Taylor & Maisie after the meet.
Teammates Aspen, Miller & Maisie.
Maisie’s friend April came to watch her compete.
Maisie was one heck of a trooper at State Meet today and did oh-so well and thankfully had a good time too. Maisie has been sick with a cold for a couple of days and is completely congested and coughing but she really wanted to go to her meet so I gave her all the meds I could and she made it through. After her meet she wanted to stay at the gym and watch the USA Level 6 Team Competition which was noisy good fun but it probably was more than my little girl could handle because by the time we got home all her meds had of course worn off so she was coughing up a storm and running a fever again. She’s now re-medicated and sleeping and I’m hoping for a good night. I have a feeling though that tomorrow is going to be a stay home from school and recuperate kind of day.
I have to say that it was crazy watching the Level 3 meet today as there were a lot of gymnasts, 122 in total, split between two sessions. What really got me though was the age range as the oldest girls were almost 6.25 years older than Maisie, more than double her age…crazy! The girls were equally divided up into smaller age groups so there were age divisions Child A, B & C and Jr. A, B & C so that for individual medals a 6 year old was not competing against a 12 year old but for team awards there were no age categories it was just the entire team. That being said, Maisie competed in the youngest age group, Child A and even there was in the bottom quarter of the group for age. The entire North Metro Level 3 squad is quite young with 11 gymnasts competing in Child A and the other 5 competing in Child B & C. Though the girls didn’t walk away with any first place wins, individually All-Around (for Child A) they had a 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th & 11th place finish and as a team they did very well taking a 7th place out of 15 teams, fabulous for such a young squad! A great season for the North Metro Level 3 girls and starting Tuesday they start training USA Level 4…woohoo!!
Maisie did very well and medaled in all events. She also had her best ever beam routine. I'm so proud of my A-Maisie-ing little gymnast.Obligatory hands in the air pictures and score card.Vault: 6th Place ~ 9.2
I think that tomorrow we’re going to be eating a lot of soup as both Maisie and I have sore throats from being sick and from all the cheering we did today for the North Metro girls. Off to pull some of my favorite Fire Roasted Tomato and Chicken Tortilla Soup from the freezer so that I can enjoy, and hopefully taste it tomorrow. It’s really good whether you’re sick or not so click on the picture to be taken to the recipe.
