A rough Thanksgiving

photo (1)eAfter gymnastics practice Wednesday afternoon, little Maisie Miao Miao just wasn’t feeling well.  She fell asleep in the car during the 8 mile drive to bring Brooke home from the gym and then after a few minutes of visiting, fell asleep on the 5 mile drive to our home.  Once home she disappeared into the bedroom and laid down saying she wasn’t feeling well.  She seemed hot so I took her temp and she was up over 102 so it was some meds and rest.  Over the course of the afternoon she just felt worse and worse and her temp, even with meds, never dropped below 101.  Overnight was rough and she awoke this morning with a fever of 103.9.  Poor little girl…  She totally resisted drinking anything but was willing to eat some popsicles so that’s the route we went.  I felt that getting her into a cool bath would help but I didn’t want her in there alone so she and Eammon each put on their bathing suits and climbed into the tub together.  They stayed in there for well over an hour and Maisie got some fluids into her by eating her popsicles in the bath.  After their bath Maisie laid limp in the family room and watched a little t.v. but was fading fast so while I worked on making Thanksgiving dinner, she and Eammon crawled into bed for an extended nap.  Over the course of the day Maisie’s temp fluctuated but never dropped below 100 and though she really didn’t eat much, we did get fluids into her.  By bedtime she said that she was feeling a bit better and wanted a bowl of oatmeal so that was good but she still went to bed with a temp over 101.  I’m hoping that she has a good nights rest and tomorrow wakes fever-free and feeling better.

Our Thanksgiving was quiet, just the three of us and my parents.  Between Maisie being sick and her allergies to wheat, egg & dairy, my Mom’s inability to eat dairy, my Dad’s avoidance of offal, mushrooms, asparagus and sugar, Eammon’s dislike of fruit mixed in with anything savory and me not feeling well and trying not to eat too many processed foods, carbs or sugar, I just made a nice but very simple meal consisting of:

IMG_6169eA roasted spatchcocked turkey, dressing, whole roasted sweet potatoes, Eammon’s favorite crispy oven roasted potatoes, cranberry celebration (which I purchase already made),

IMG_6166ecauliflower with seared peppers and caramelized onions & garlic and of course gravy for Eammon.

IMG_6160e No pies for dessert, instead we enjoyed crockpot cranberry & nut stuffed apples.  Hopefully in the next few days I’ll get some of the recipes posted over on Cook Lisa Cook

The one dish that I didn’t make that I Eammon probably missed the most was my Corn Soufflé which has been a Thanksgiving regular since he and I got married.  I may have to make a mini one for him to enjoy, maybe for Christmas dinner.  This Corn Soufflé really is wonderful so click on the picture or the link to check out the recipe over on Cook Lisa Cook.  Hope that everyone enjoyed a safe, healthy and delicious Thanksgiving.

  1. Oh Lisa, I'm sorry that Maisie was so sick. Praying she's feeling better now. Poor little love. We had a similar experience in our home a couple of weeks ago and as a Mom you feel so helpless when your little one is sick. :o( Hannah's ended up being a bladder infection shown in no other way than a temp.

Hope you're able to find the root cause for Maisie's temp and that she's feeling 100% soon.

    Happy belated Thanksgiving.

  2. That's ALL you made for your simple dinner? Lisa, you crack me up. That's about as much as we made at our house for our fancy dinner. LOL!

I'm very sorry to hear that Maisie's temp has not dropped yet. I'm hoping she wakes up feeling much better today! (You too.)
