Port of Call: Amsterdam

IMG_4164eAfter our stop in Ponta Delgada we had three more sea days before our stop in Amsterdam.  I was in Amsterdam years ago and I know that I toured around and visited numerous sites including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum but what I remember most was how much I just loved walking around the city.  This time too, I just loved walking around and seeing the city.

IMG_4171e Maisie wasn’t feeling 100% so we knew that she wouldn’t be up for a full day touring museums, especially art museums so we planned our day accordingly.

IMG_4151e The one site that I really wanted all of us to visit was the Anne Frank House.  Maisie was less than thrilled and cooperative with my picture taking in front of the house and as pictures weren’t allowed inside, this was all I got.

IMG_4131e As Maisie wasn’t feeling great, after our time in the Anne Frank House we sat down for a little lunch and then Eammon went off to visit a few museums and I had Maisie in the stroller.  While she dozed in and out, I walked and walked and walked and took in the sights.  Other than strolling in and out of a few stores, we didn’t go into any buildings and I just stopped and took pictures when something caught my eye so lots of pictures without descriptions in this post.

IMG_4139eThis one deserves a description, it’s a very non-private port-a-pee…four stalls nonetheless…ewwww!

IMG_4180eBecause I couldn’t have a pee-station picture before my recipe, here’s Maisie at a little display in the cruise terminal before re-boarding the ship.

Maisie lost a bit of weight during our trip so I’m making these Baked Meatballs for her this weekend as she loves them and they have lots of good added calories with the addition of ground walnuts…which make them quite delicious too.  Click on the picture to be taken to the recipe.

  1. I absolutely love your pictures of Amsterdam (all except one, heh heh). It's so beautiful. I never thought I wanted to visit, but how you have me rethinking that.

Your cruise and sight-seeing photos are just wonderful, thank you for sharing them.

Having read "The Diary of Anne Frank", seeing your photo of Anne Frank's house with little Maisie standing in front of it was mesmerizing. I think seeing the house in person would honestly take my breath away. Such an emotional place, such unfathomable history.
