Allergy testing

photo (8) eMaisie has still been suffering with major congestion, so-much-so that she wakes multiple times each night because she’s completely stuffed up and can’t breathe.  After a recent visit to her primary care doc it was suggested that we get her adenoids checked out so last Friday we visited the ENT.  He checked Maisie out, scoped her nose and said her adenoids (and tonsils) were small and looked great so they weren’t the problem.  He then suggested that we see an allergist for more extensive allergy testing.  Today was that day so I picked Maisie up a bit early from school and we headed to the allergist.  Poor little Maisie had her back covered with test sites but she was a brave little girl and kept a smile on her face while I felt queasy, but what else is new as I’m not good when tests are performed on me or her.  In the end Maisie didn’t test positive for any additional allergies which is great but it doesn’t give us any answers.  Now the allergist wants Maisie to have a CAT scan to see if something is going on back in her sinuses causing her congestion.  Hopefully we’ll have some answers soon so that Maisie can breathe, sleep and feel better.

I have had a wicked head cold for the past two weeks and truly it has wiped me out.  The past few nights I have crawled into bed either with or even before Maisie because by the end of the day I have had nothing left.  Needless to say we have been eating a lot of dinners from the freezer and I’m thankful to have lots of single serving bags of my Cheaters Chicken Soup as Maisie and I have been living on it lately.  Even with all our congestion the hearty flavor of the soup still comes through and tastes delicious.  Click on the picture to be taken to the recipe.

  1. Ugh, so sorry that the testing didn't show anything easy and fixable (always my hope with medical testing). Sending hugs for everyone and hoping you both feel better and get answers soon.

  3. So sorry to hear that the tests didn't show up any new answers for you. It's wonderful that she doesn't have any new allergies and yet I know you want to know what is causing her congestion.

Is there a possibility it's linked to detergent? This is on my mind as you know since Hannah has not had any recurrances of her hives since I changed to a hypo-allergenic detergent. She broke out twice when she went to bed even though I had been using the same detergent on the sheets almost since she was home. Just a thought.

Hope you're able to find a solution and that it's easily correctable.

Hope you're both feeling much, much better soon!

  5. Congestion is no fun. I hope you find answers soon so that Maisie can breath better. A 2-week head cold sounds awful, too! :( Maisie does look very brave lying on that table -
