It’s a Maisie thing

IMG_0516eThis was Maisie “comfortably” enjoying a little treat after school & homework on Monday.  She is one interesting and funny little girl.

IMG_0521eHer treat was half a sheet of Mega Candy Buttons…she was one happy little girl.

Today I posted a wonderful new recipe over on Cook Lisa Cook for Tom Yam Ghoong, an absolutely delicious spicy Thai shrimp soup.  If you can get all the ingredients you must make this soup as it’s off the charts wonderful and with the weather just now starting to cool down a bit, this soup makes a wonderful meal.  Click on the picture to be taken to the recipe.

Not even six and I’m in trouble

My HipstaPrint 0 My Utah bloggy pal Laurel left the following comment on my "Knackered & Angry Birds" post: “I tried angry birds the other day. I couldn't do it. Frustrated me. The kids seem to be able to do it. Kinda drives me crazy how those younger than us know more about that kinda stuff than we do.”

Her comment immediately made me think of a conversation Maisie and I had in the car last Thursday morning on the way to school.

Maisie:  “Mama is d-i-r-i-g-i-b-l-e the way to spell dirigible?”

Me:  “Ummmm…You know I’m not 100% sure but if you ask Miss. Lisa I’ll bet that she’ll look it up in the dictionary with you.”  (Yeah, nice pass-off on my part while thinking oh-cr@p, not only is the girl’s math beyond mine but now so is her spelling.)

Maisie:  “I think it’s d-i-r-i-g-i-b-l-e because even though it sounds like a ‘j’ it’s a ‘g’.”

Me:  “You’re right, it is a ‘g’ but I’m not sure if it’s ‘ible’ or ‘able’ on the end.”  Then to get her mind off the fact that I wasn’t 100% sure of the spelling I asked,  “Maisie, do you know what a dirigible is?”

Maisie:  (exasperated) “A blimp Mama, I saw one the other day.”

Once again, she told me.  I did look up the word and I’ll be damned, the girl was 100% correct in her spelling.

If you haven’t checked out my Secret Recipe Club post from Monday for Welsh Cakes, you’re missing out.  Look at how much Maisie loved them.IMG_0049eFrom start to finish you could be eating these wonderful treats in less than 30 minutes and I know that you want something tasty so click on the picture and check out the recipe…they’re really delicious and I hear them calling your name…

Cobb Kick Off

I meant to post this yesterday but I was having major computer problems and then a wicked headache knocked my o.u.t.  I took some pain meds at 5:30PM and went to lay down to let them work and that was it for the night, I was out.  This morning I thankfully awoke with the headache mostly gone and after a wonderful hour long deep tissue massage of my neck & shoulders I’m feeling much better.  So after 163 of daily posting, my streak has ended.  C’est la vie.

Saturday morning Maisie competed at her second meet of the season.  This was their first away meet and it was held at Cobb Challengers.  Maisie was very excited and awoke extra early, 6 am to be exact so she was up and rearing to go.

To qualify for State Meet a gymnast must earn two All-Around scores of 32 or higher.  At the first meet of the season, Summer Fun Meet, Maisie earned a 35.3 and though at this meet Maisie had a few difficulties on beam, she made her score with a 34.625 so that pressure is relieved and she’s qualified for State!

This past week at practice, on both Thursday & Friday, Maisie took two really bad falls on the beam and that showed in her performance at the meet.  She was trying so hard not to take another bad spill that she lost her confidence and twice she fell off the beam.  I’m so proud of my girl though as she got right back on the beam both times and completed her routine.

Maisie said that she was disappointed with her beam performance but that she tried her best and wants to work on it so that next time she does better.  Maisie medaled in only three events, vault, bars & floor and received one of her lowest scores ever (7.6) on her beam routine but even with that, she still came in third all-around and was only 0.425 off of first place.  As always I’m so proud of my girl and beyond thrilled that she had fun at the meet and loved being there, competing and being with her teammates.

Okay so here we go with more pictures of Maisie with her arms in the air.

Big Congrats to Maisie and all the the North Metro Girls, as always you Rocked the House!!

Knackered & Angry Birds

It’s almost 10PM, wayyyyyyy past Maisie’s bedtime and she’s finally in bed and hopefully quickly on her way to a good night’s sleep…hopefully too, I won’t be far behind in drifting off to la-la-land.

photo (5)Maisie and I have been going and going like Energizer bunnies since 6 this morning.  She had her first “away” gymnastics meet this morning and I’ll hopefully be posting about that tomorrow.  After the meet Maisie and I had a list of things to do and places to go.  We finally slowed down a bit at a late-for-us dinner and while waiting on dessert Maisie played a little bit of Angry Birds.  Tonight was the first time that I’ve seen the game and honestly I don’t really understand the appeal but Maisie had fun.

Nothing new on the menu tonight since I didn’t cook but had we eaten at home and if figs were still in season, this is what I would have chosen, my favorite Blacksmith Pizza made with Roasted Garlic Onion Jam, fresh figs and goat cheese…YUM!!!  Just click on the picture to be taken to the recipe and also many other delicious grilled pizza combinations.IMG_6174e2

Glasses

Maisie doesn’t need glasses but she loves pretending that she does.  She says that they make her smarter and I think she looks so studious and of course stinkin’ cute when she wears them.  Thursday afternoon she decided that she needed to wear them while doing homework.

IMG_0458eIMG_0459eIMG_0460eIMG_0461eIMG_0463eIMG_0465eIMG_0468e

Today was a busy day for Maisie as she returned, after being off for the summer, to her swimming lessons.  After swimming many, many laps she then had a three hour gymnastics practice.  Tomorrow is her first away meet of the season and I’m hoping that she does well and has a wonderful time.  Since I spent the day driving Maisie around and running errands it was sandwiches for dinner, our favorite Roast Beef & Garlic Herb Cheese Sandwich.  Click on the picture to be taken to the recipe. Wednesday pottery painting

86a9e47781c64ba29a00f0a2757854cf_7eMaisie and I have done quite a bit of pottery painting lately as she really enjoys it and keeps asking to go.  She loves it so much that she even requested that we go pottery painting for her birthday instead of having a big party at her favorite place in the world, the gym, so you know she must really adore it.  So this week when I asked her what she wanted to do on Wednesday, our one free afternoon, I wasn’t surprised when she requested to go pottery painting.  After school and homework Maisie and I spent a nice girls afternoon together, first painting our pottery and then a little stop at Gigi’s for a cupcake treat.  It was a fun afternoon with my favorite girl.

Notice that Maisie was wearing a long sleeved shirt.  Well that’s because we’ve been having some really cool weather with daytime temps only in the high 60’s – low 70’s.  I’m looking forward to the weekend when the temperatures should be back where they belong, in the 80’s.  Our cold temps have me craving some warm comfort foods like my Tom Kha Gai, a perfect and delicious soup to warm your belly.  It’s not the best of pictures but if you click on it you will be taken to an awesome, delicious and easy recipe to make a pot for you and your family.tom kha gai

While checking out the Tom Kha Gai please also take a look at some of my other delicious recipes over on Cook Lisa Cook including: Mango Lassi, Stir-Fried Asparagus with Water Chestnuts, Ginger & Cashews, Curried Roast Chicken Pieces with Spicy Sweet Potato & Carrots, Grilled Corn & Bacon Pudding, Oriental Chicken Salad, Potato Salad with Bacon, Coffee Crusted Steak, Home Style Chicken Curry, Watermelon FrostyMango Gazpacho, Toll House Double Stuff Oreo Brownies, Long Beans with Walnuts, Blacksmith Pizza, Rhubarb Crisp, Laksa, Math Book No Bake Cookies, Aloo Gobi, Mint Lassi, Red Curry Chicken, Lamb Curry, Grilled Corn, Avocado & Tomato Salad with Honey Lime Dressing, Baked Egg Cups Two Ways, Thai Peanut Salad, Holy Guacamole, Cantaloupe Agua Fresca, Wallaby Darned, Piggy-Out Cookies, Wicked Good New England Lobster Roll, Long Beans with Garlic, Super Simple Summer Shrimp Salsa Salad, Grandma’s Teriyaki Steak, Watermelon Tomato Gazpacho, Red Chinese Long Beans with Peppers & Red Curry, 24-Layer Crêpe Cake Fig & Watermelon Salad, Grilled Chèvre & Fig Panini, Spicy Asian Cucumber Salad, Grilled Prawns, Spicy Brown Sugar Bacon, Kicked Up Piggy-Out Cookies, Pesto Pita Pizza, Cilantro Lime Chicken, Nutella Crêpes, Mango, Lime & Chile Spiced Ice Box Pie, Roast Beef & Garlic Herb Cheese Sandwich, Layered Crespelle with Bolognese, Fresh Mozzarella & Basil, Jamaican Jerk Meat Pies, Nutella No Bake Cookies & Velvety Mac & Cheese.

Maisie’s Fave, Velvety Mac & Cheese

A ways back I joined The Secret Recipe Club and have been having fun cooking recipes from the blogs which I’m assigned each month.  I have made some wonderful new recipes including Home Style Chicken Curry, some awesome Holy Guacamole and last month a delicious Cilantro Lime Chicken.  If one cooking club was good I thought two would be better so I joined Cook Around the Globe and for that group’s inaugural month I made Jamaican Jerk Meat Pies.  All this cooking has been great fun so when I was invited to join The Crazy Cooking Challenge, well I jumped right on that bandwagon too.  How could I pass up the opportunity to add yet another fun cooking challenge.

The Crazy Cooking Challenge works a little differently than my other two groups in that each month everyone who is participating makes the same dish.  We don’t all use the same recipe though as we all go out into blogosphere trying to find a non-celebrity blogger who has what we think will be the ultimate of that recipe.  We then each make and post our chosen recipe and then everyone and anyone can vote on which recipe is the ultimate of that dish.

This month the dish was Mac & Cheese and Maisie was one very happy little girl as she is a little Mac & Cheese connoisseur.IMG_0122eMaisie ate and ate and ate my Velvety Mac & Cheese day after day which is quite unusual for her but she just adored the recipe and couldn’t get enough.

I too thought this recipe quite delicious and because of the combination of cheeses it was super creamy and cheesy, just what Mac & Cheese should be.  Click on the picture to be taken to the recipe and I hope that you’ll vote this Velvety Mac & Cheese as the ultimate Mac & Cheese recipe in this months Crazy Cooking Challenge.IMG_0109e

I think that I have some other pretty ultimate recipes posted over on Cook Lisa Cook so take a look around and make something delicious.  Recent recipes include: Mango Lassi, Stir-Fried Asparagus with Water Chestnuts, Ginger & Cashews, Curried Roast Chicken Pieces with Spicy Sweet Potato & Carrots, Grilled Corn & Bacon Pudding, Oriental Chicken Salad, Potato Salad with Bacon, Coffee Crusted Steak, Home Style Chicken Curry, Watermelon FrostyMango Gazpacho, Toll House Double Stuff Oreo Brownies, Long Beans with Walnuts, Blacksmith Pizza, Rhubarb Crisp, Laksa, Math Book No Bake Cookies, Aloo Gobi, Mint Lassi, Red Curry Chicken, Lamb Curry, Grilled Corn, Avocado & Tomato Salad with Honey Lime Dressing, Baked Egg Cups Two Ways, Thai Peanut Salad, Holy Guacamole, Cantaloupe Agua Fresca, Wallaby Darned, Piggy-Out Cookies, Wicked Good New England Lobster Roll, Long Beans with Garlic, Super Simple Summer Shrimp Salsa Salad, Grandma’s Teriyaki Steak, Watermelon Tomato Gazpacho, Red Chinese Long Beans with Peppers & Red Curry, 24-Layer Crêpe Cake Fig & Watermelon Salad, Grilled Chèvre & Fig Panini, Spicy Asian Cucumber Salad, Grilled Prawns, Spicy Brown Sugar Bacon, Kicked Up Piggy-Out Cookies, Pesto Pita Pizza, Cilantro Lime Chicken, Nutella Crêpes, Mango, Lime & Chile Spiced Ice Box Pie, Roast Beef & Garlic Herb Cheese Sandwich, Layered Crespelle with Bolognese, Fresh Mozzarella & Basil, Jamaican Jerk Meat Pies and Nutella No Bake Cookies.

Maisie no-bakes again

On Wednesdays after school and homework Maisie and I enjoy our one free afternoon of the week.  I always try and find something fun that we can do together.  Often times Maisie will ask to go somewhere or will want to play a special game but this past Wednesday she said that she wanted to make something in the kitchen.  After giving her a few choices she decided that she wanted to make Math Book No Bake Cookies.  I had just saved a Nutella version of those same cookies to my “need to make” list so I suggested that to Maisie and she was all over it because Nutella is her favorite!

IMG_0355eMaisie trying to smile with a mouth full of her delicious Nutella No Bake Cookies.

IMG_0333eMaisie loves to stir together all the ingredients.

IMG_0337eScooping out the cookies is fun too.

IMG_0339eObviously taking little taste samples is part of the job.

IMG_0340eCleaning off the spoon is important.

IMG_0341eCan’t forget about cleaning the scoop.
