Surgery day

photo (5)eThursday was a long day for my little Maisie Miao Miao.  We started out at Children's Health Care Surgery Center but when we first arrived Maisie went to the bathroom and without thinking stopped at the bubbler and drank some water so they had to delay her surgery time. Maisie was the second to last surgery scheduled with her surgeon at that facility and even if they swapped the final two cases it wouldn’t have given the two hours needed to clear the water from Maisie’s system and her surgeon had to leave to do a surgery at the hospital but thankfully they were able to reschedule us and we just had to move from the surgery center to Children’s Health Care at Scottish Rite so that Maisie could slot in after her final surgery. It wasn’t a big move as the buildings are on the same campus but for Maisie, who was thirsty and hungry it was long because instead of going in for her procedure at 11:50 she got in at 4:10.

photo e Maisie did well with the procedures but had some stomach issues with the anesthesia so her recovery time was longer than usual.  Her only comfortable place was in my arms, being rocked as she slept.  All in all everything went well, her adenoids are gone, a nasal culture has been taken and her sinuses flushed. Hopefully Monday we'll get the culture results and know which antibiotic is needed to finally clear up her chronic infection.

We finally made it home around 7PM and Maisie was happy to be home and able to eat.  She happily ate a few popsicles, yellow rice & jello and downed a few fruit juices.  Thankfully it all stayed in her belly and then she slept pretty well so overall Maisie had a good night.  This morning she awoke with only positive memories of the surgical experience and she said that it’s easier to breathe so hopefully that will continue and improve.  Today and this weekend we’re taking it slow, keeping her away from too many people and germs, laying low and allowing her to recover and rest.  Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes, notes, calls, comments and prayers.

So that Eammon and I could have an easy dinner available when we returned home from the hospital, I mixed up another batch of the Fruit, Nut & Poppy Seed Chicken Salad that I recently made for my Secret Recipe Club post.  I’m telling you, I’m addicted to this chicken salad as it’s over the top yummy!  Once home last night, after getting Maisie fed and settled I just spread the Chicken Salad on our favorite Lavash bread, added some veggies and dinner was served.  Click on the picture to be taken to the recipe.

  4. So thankful to hear how well your sweet little girl did! I've been praying for her surgery and will now pray that they can find the cause and prescribe exactly what she needs to clear up that nasty infection.
